Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate exploratory models about the effects of factors – students’ attitudes toward Portuguese language and maths, age and sex – that may interfere with attitudes toward school while explicitly modelling the multilevel structure of a large data set from an educational context. Based on a study with Portuguese youngsters (N=671) from regular classes, whom we applied Questionnaires of Attitudes Toward School, Toward Portuguese language and Toward mathematics. We used regression trees algorithm to predict a student’ attitudes toward school model. The results come to reveal the importance of understand attitudes toward school as being majorly affected for students emotionality (disaffection and like) to maths and Portuguese language.
