FAMÍLIAS DENUNCIADAS POR VIOLÊNCIA FÍSICA CONTRA A CRIANÇA: UMA ANÁLISE DOCUMENTAL
Ana Carolina Villares Barral Villas Boas, Maria Auxiliadora Dessen
AbstractThis study aimed to describe characteristics of the victim, the aggressor, and the relations in families denounced for child physical abuse. Data collection was conducted through document analysis of twenty lawsuits involving Brazilian families denounced for violence against children aged 5-9 years old. The analysis was performed using an instrument containing 55 items concerning the denouncement, the family context, and the procedures adopted in the case. Data revealed that the aggressor, in most cases the mother or the father, is described as an aggressive person in her/his everyday life; and that the child presents behaviors of disobedience, sadness and agitation. Family relations are described as conflictive, particularly the marital ones, and nine families were supported by members of the extended family. It is discussed how the identification of positive aspects of family relations and of resources available in the family, at the time of the denouncement, is essential to the successful monitoring of domestic violence situations.
