AbstractThe Horse Assisted Therapy has proliferated recently as a therapeutic activity and represents an important part of the service offering in equestrian centers or specialized associations and is one of the most common applications in the stimulation of autistic individuals. However, there is insufficient scientific studies corroborate the effects of this technique. At the same time, recent studies have shown the influence of certain hormones, such as oxytocin, cortisol or progesterone, in the behavior of the Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) We quantified the fluctuations in hormone levels in response to Horse Assisted Therapy in autistic children to objectify the influence of this therapy analyzed through laboratory methods and noninvasive techniques (salivary samples), in the hormone levels of cortisol and progesterone, thus indirectly those of oxytocin before and after the therapy sessions for people with ASD and verify whether the Horse Assisted Therapy lead to improved social attitudes of these children.
