COMPORTAMENTOS E ATITUDES DOS JOVENS FACE ÀS INFECÇÕES SEXUALMENTE TRANSMISSIVEIS

AbstractIt is during adolescence and in the first stage of adulthood that occurs a large number of cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections. The study of sexual behaviours in youngsters therefore assumes a relevant role. With the purpose of understanding the determining variables in the behaviours and sexual attitudes towards the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) it has been developed developed a research based on a sample of 639 higher education students, 57.6% female and 42.4% male, aged between 18 and 24 years. The results have shown that 74.8% had sexual intercourse and 96.4% reported using a contraceptive method, however the condom is only used by 64.1%. The study also revealed that the gender of the participants, the fact of having or not boyfriend/ girlfriend, whether or not they have had sex and their religion are determining factors in the attitudes of youngsters towards the prevention of STIs.
