Abstract

In regards to sexual and reproductive health there are various implicit topics ranging from the physical well-being and the absence of disease to the possibility to freely decide if a family is want-ed or not. But sexual and reproductive health also relates to the emotional well-being that comes from a safe and pleasurable sexual experience. The aim of this pilot study is to assess the level of knowledge concerning sexual and reproductive health among young adults enrolled in college and second level Adult Education and Training courses. This pilot study is included in the Affectus Alter-Ego Project, and involved the participation of 94 individuals of two schools in Coimbra. The data was collected throughout the academic year of 2011- 2012 by the means of a questionnaire with closed responses (T/F) and analysed descriptively. The results on issues relating to sexuality, contraception and STI, suggest a lack of effective lev-els of information about sexual and reproductive health among young adults, and the difference in the quality of the information is not significant in either gender diversity or levels of training/educa-tion.
Keywords:young adults, sexual and reproductive health, STI, contraception.
