Cuidados recebidos na infância e investimento parental em mães de bebés pré-termo
Eva Sousa Freitas. pp. 293-302
Abstract
Objective: To articulate the quality of parental investment towards children by mothers who experienced a preterm delivery with their memories of relations established with their parental figures
during childhood.
Instruments: Sociodemographic and Clinical Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Social Support Scale, Satisfaction in Areas of Married Life Scale, Parental Bonding Instrument and the Parental Investment in Child Scale.
Hypotheses: Four hypotheses were tested relating Satisfaction with Social Support, Marital Satisfaction, Parental Care and Overprotection to (H1) Acceptation of Parental Role, to (H2) Pleasure Concerning the Parental Role Performance, to (H3) Knowledge and Sensitivity while Facing Children
Needs and to (H4) Total Parental Investment.
Results: Hypotheses H1, H2 and H4 were partially confirmed, with a particularly important contribution from memories related to father’s overprotection. H3 was not confirmed but showed that
obstetrical variables play a very important role in this area.
Conclusion: Data obtained showed that memories related to care received during childhood appear to influence the quality of parental investment in children born pre-term.
Keywords: parental investment, memories of care received in childhood; preterm delivery; father’s overprotection and obstetrical variables.
