ESTILOS EDUCATIVOS PARENTALES: PROPUESTA DE UN PROGRAMA DE EDUCACIÓN PARENTAL

The family is the first socializing context of the child, therefore, the influence that parents may have in the first years of their sons’ lives is crucial. In this work we have set out as a main objective the identification of the educational styles of the families that have children registered in municipal schools of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria through the Revised Scale of Evaluation of Educational Styles (4er) (Palacios y Sánchez-Sandoval, 2000). We have obtained a sample of 784 families, this has allowed us to study the influence of different variables of reference about the parental education styles: the genres of the children and parents, the age and the studies levels of the parents and the confirmation of attendance to the program. For this, we have taken into account three factors that the scale evaluates, such as essential aspects of the parental behavior: communication and affection, demands and inducement. The results obtained let us know the needs and the characteristics of the families that have sons in the first stage of the infantile education. We have used the results as a guide for the proposal design of the parental education program in which we highlight the experiential methodology as a mean to the achievement of reflective parents.
